Fiduciary Financial Advisor in Wichita, KS

Not every financial advisor is required to act in your best interest. StewardRight is. We're a Registered Investment Adviser — full fiduciary, fee-based, no commissions.

Not every financial advisor in Wichita is required to act in your best interest. That's not a criticism — it's just how the industry is structured. Broker-dealers and insurance agents operate under a suitability standard, which means they need to recommend products that are "suitable" for you. A fiduciary is held to a higher bar: they are legally required to put your interests first.

StewardRight is a fiduciary. We're a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) with the SEC, which means our legal obligation runs to you — not to any financial product, fund company, or insurance company.

What Fiduciary Actually Means

The word gets used a lot. Here's what it actually requires in practice:

No Hidden Conflicts

Any financial relationship that could influence our advice must be disclosed. No hidden arrangements with fund companies or platforms.

No Commissions

Commission-based advisors earn money when you buy a product. We're fee-based — you pay us directly. Our income doesn't change based on what we recommend.

Your Interest First

If the right answer for you is to stay where you are, we'll tell you that. We're not in the business of creating unnecessary transactions.

Why It Matters in Wichita

Wichita has a large population of pre-retirees — people in their 50s and early 60s approaching significant financial decisions. Pension elections, 401(k) rollovers, Social Security timing, and annuity purchases are all decisions that can't be easily undone. They're also decisions where commission-based advisors have the most to gain.

Many of our clients are drawn from Wichita's established neighborhoods — Old Town, College Hill, Riverside, Delano, Linwood — where families have built real wealth and face real planning decisions. Whether you're a Spirit AeroSystems engineer evaluating a retirement package or a business owner planning an exit, the principles are the same: your interests come first, and our advice reflects that commitment.

We've had clients come to us after making expensive financial decisions with advisors who weren't fiduciaries. Sometimes the damage is reversible. Sometimes it isn't. The cleaner path is to work with a fiduciary from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask them directly: "Are you a fiduciary at all times for my account?" A yes means they're required to put your interests first. A qualified yes ("sometimes" or "when wearing my advisory hat") is a red flag. You can also check the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure (IAPD) tool at adviserinfo.sec.gov.

Not exactly. Fee-only means the advisor earns no commissions at all — only fees paid directly by clients. Fee-based means the advisor primarily earns fees but may also receive some commission income in certain contexts. StewardRight operates on a fee-based model as a fiduciary and discloses all compensation arrangements.

Fee structures vary. Common models include a percentage of assets under management (typically 0.5–1.5% annually), flat annual retainers, or hourly rates. We'll be transparent about our fee structure in our first conversation — before you commit to anything.

CFP® professionals are required to act as fiduciaries when providing financial planning services under the CFP Board's Code of Ethics. However, some CFP® holders also hold licenses that allow them to earn commissions in other contexts. Knowing the full picture of how someone is compensated matters.

A good first meeting is about listening, not pitching. We'll ask questions about your financial situation, goals, concerns, and any previous experiences with advisors. We'll explain our process and fee structure clearly. There's no pressure to hire us that day — you should leave with a clear understanding of how we work and whether we're a fit.
