Largest suburb. Derby has a growing commercial corridor and small business community. Business owners across retail, professional services, and trades. Many of our Derby clients operate from established neighborhoods like Wheatwind Estates and Park Meadows, where owner-operated businesses and professional practices thrive alongside the community's steady growth. We also work with business owners in Canterbury, Grand Prairie, and Summer Meadows—neighborhoods where we've helped families build both thriving companies and personal wealth.
StewardRight works with business owners throughout Derby and the Wichita metro to bring financial planning discipline to their business — succession planning, exit strategy, key-person protection, business valuation guidance, and tax coordination.
We're independent, fee-based, and fiduciary. Our advice isn't connected to product sales or business referral fees. It's built around what's actually right for your company and your personal financial situation.
What We Do for Derby Business Owners
Succession Planning: Who takes over when you're done? At what price? On what terms? We help build the plan before the decision becomes urgent.
Business Valuation Guidance: Do you know what your business is worth today? We help owners develop a realistic, defensible picture of business value — and understand what drives it.
Buy-Sell Agreements: If you have a partner, your buy-sell agreement needs to be current. Most aren't. We review them and flag the gaps.
Key-Person Insurance: What happens if you or a critical employee can't work? We help businesses quantify that risk and structure appropriate coverage.
Tax Strategy: Business owners have more tax levers than employees. We coordinate with your CPA to make sure you're pulling all of them.
Personal Wealth Building: Your business is an asset. But you need wealth outside it too. We build the personal financial plan alongside the business plan.
FAQ
When should I start succession planning?
5–10 years before you plan to exit — at minimum. Starting earlier gives you options. Waiting limits them.
Do you work with business owners who are still growing?
Yes. You don't have to be near exit to benefit from business financial planning. Growth-phase owners benefit from tax strategy, compensation planning, and making sure personal wealth is building alongside the business.
What happens in our first meeting?
We'll spend 45–60 minutes understanding your business, your current financial situation, and what matters most to you — whether that's a smooth transition, tax efficiency, or building wealth outside the company. We'll ask questions, not pitch solutions. If it makes sense to work together, we'll outline next steps. If it doesn't, we'll be direct about that too.
How are you paid?
We charge flat or hourly fees for planning and advice — no product commissions, no referral fees, no AUM. You know what you're paying and why. We'll discuss our fee structure during your first call.
Do I need to be a "big" business to work with you?
No. We work with business owners across the size spectrum. If your business generates meaningful income and you have decisions to make about its future or your personal wealth, we can help. The complexity of your situation and the scope of work determine the engagement size, not an arbitrary business revenue threshold.
What should I bring to our first meeting?
Your most recent business tax return and personal tax return are helpful. If you have a current business valuation, buy-sell agreement, or existing insurance policies you're unsure about, bring those too. But don't stress about having everything perfectly organized — we'll guide you through what we need as we go.
How do you work with my CPA or accountant?
We coordinate closely with your existing tax advisor. We're not trying to replace them — we handle the planning and wealth strategy side while they manage compliance and tax preparation. Good communication between advisors makes your overall plan stronger. We'll ask your permission and reach out to align on tax strategy and business decisions.
What if I'm not sure my business is "ready" for planning?
That uncertainty is exactly why planning conversations matter. Many owners assume they need to be further along or have more figured out than they actually do. If you're generating business income and thinking about the next 5–10 years, there's something we can help with. That first meeting is low-pressure and diagnostic — we'll tell you honestly whether formal planning makes sense right now.
Can you help with business valuation if I'm thinking about selling or bringing in a partner?
Yes. Whether you're exploring a sale, considering a buy-sell agreement with a partner, or just want to know your business's true value for planning purposes, we help you build a realistic picture. We work with business valuation specialists when a formal appraisal is needed, and we help you understand what drives value so you can make informed decisions.
